Institute speaking at upcoming events

Institute CEO, Mr. Kieran Ring, will speak on the changing role of the Port Authority at the International Association of Ports & Harbours Mid-Term Conference on Tuesday May 22nd in Jerusalem and at the 2012 Shortsea European Convention on Thursday May 24th in Dublin.

First mover ports communities across the world, led by their Port Authorities, are increasingly improving the levels of coordination communication and control between the stakeholders and users of the port, resulting in a more seamless global supply chain. The Institute's presentation will look at who these first movers are, their motivation and how they are changing.

Institute CEO to moderate Big Industry Debate at TOC Europe

June 12-14:TOC Europe, the port-centric container supply chain exhibition, is the definitive meeting place for the world's shipping, port and terminals industries.

On Conference day 2, June 13th, Institute CEO Mr. Kieran Ring will moderate the BNP Paribas Big Industry Debate. This will offer delegates the opportunity to discuss and benchmark the issues that are most critical to your business and network with your industry peers in round table debates.

Virginia Maritime Association International Trade Symposium

May 3rd: The Institute participated in the Virginia Maritime Association’s International Trade Symposium on the panel “Logistics as a Team Sport”. The panel provided real world examples of how demonstrating a commitment to quality has improved cargo handling processes and the shipper experience.

Inaugural Meeting of the Virginia Committee

May 2nd: The Virginia Committee meet for the first time.

The aim of the Committee will be to research and identify “Best Practices” in the operation of rail terminals with a view to developing the “Rail Terminal Quality System” (RTQS) which will allow Port Authorities and Port Processors to implement a globally agreed quality system.

Cirrus Logistics becomes founding corporate member of the Institute

APR 26th: Decision support software provider for the logistics industry, Cirrus Logistics, has been named as a founding corporate member of the Global Institute of Logistics (GIL) at a ceremony in Dublin.

China (Shenzhen) International Logistics and Transportation Fair (CILF)

OCT 15th-17th: The Annual CILF, jointly hosted by the Ministry of Transport and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, will be held at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center during October 15th-17th.

CILF has built a professional, effective, reliable and wide-ranging exchange platform for all stakeholders within the logistics, transport and associated industries – all of which has helped cement CILF as the number one Logistics and Transportation Exhibition in Asia.

European Knowledge Mission: Copenhagen & Cork

APR 24TH: The Institute travelled to Copenhagen to meet with Mr. Lars Jensen, CEO of SeaIntel Maritime Analysis. After discussing both the Institute’s and SeaIntel’s work, both parties agreed to explore the potential for further collaboration.

APR 27TH: The final leg of the Institute’s April Knowledge Mission involved a trip to the Port of Cork. Representing the Institute were our CEO Mr. Kieran Ring, our China Director Mr. William Yang-Lei and our Membership Manager Mr. Ray Grafton. Our team met with Mr. Brendan Keating, the Chief Executive of the Port of Cork. Our team discussed the work of the Institute and gave Mr. Keating an update on the Institute’s China programs, including our China Gateway program.

Institute to participate in Virginian International Trade Symposium

Virginia Maritime Association, in connection with American Shipper magazine, will host their annual International Trade Symposium in the city of Norfolk this May 3rd. The Institute have been invited to moderate a panel to discuss the Port of Virginia’s ‘Operation Port Plus’ program – an initiative of the Port of Virginia to improve their port by emphasising service to the customer as its primary goal.

European Knowledge Mission: Visit to Hamburg

APR 24th: The Institute continues to enjoy a strong relationship with Hamburg. It was here, with the cooperation of German certification company Germanischer Lloyd, that the Institute founded the Hamburg Committee which developed the Container Terminal Quality System.

The Institute paid a visit to Soltau Logistics Center to brief them on the recent developments concerning the Institute’s China programs and on the China Gateway project. Germanischer Lloyd and HHLA, whose CTA terminal was the first container terminal to be certified with the Container Terminal Quality Indicator, were also visited - the topic of discussion being the further development and promotion of the Container Terminal Quality System. European Knowledge Mission continues with visit to Valencia

APR 19th: Pictured: The Institute’s China Director, Mr. William Yang-Lei, meeting with the president of the Port Authority of Valencia and former European Chairman of the Institute, Sr. Raphael Aznar.

The Institute and the Port of Valencia have enjoyed a strong relationship with each other. Indeed, it was through working in cooperation with the Port of Valencia that the Institute developed its ‘Operation Port Unity’ research, which helped lay the foundation for the inaugural World Port Strategy Forum held last October in Shenzhen. Mr. William Yang-Lei, the Institute’s China Director, gave an update to the Port of Valencia on the Institute’s work, with a particular focus on the Institute’s China programs.

Institute kick off European Knowledge Mission with visit to Zeebrugge

APR 12th: The Institute began their April European Knowledge Mission with a visit to the Port of Zeebrugge. We continue to work closely with our European Chairman Mr. Joachim Coens, Chairman-Managing Director of the Port of Zeebrugge. Key topics for discussion will include the Institute’s China programs, including China Gateway.

The Europe Knowledge Mission will also include visits to the ports of Valencia, Hamburg and Cork, as well as a trip to Copenhagen.
