China Chapter Research Review 2010-20115th Annual China Dinner, Tianjin![]() On March 29th, the Global Institute of Logistics held its 5th Annual China Dinner on the eve of the TOC Asia 2011 event. This year we focused our attention on the enormous opportunities and challenges for both the global and Chinese logistics industry that will result from China’s 12th Five Year Plan. We were pleased to welcome Mr. Wei Jianguo, Secretary General of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, as our guest of honour and after-dinner speaker. BACKGROUNDThe Institute has been researching the logistics implications of the 12th 5 year plan for the last 18 months; our findings from the research were published in our “Deliver China” whitepaper released to coincide with TOC Asia. The formation of the Global China Import Logistics Committee is a key recommendation from the Deliver China research process. Mr Alex Chu Chairman of DCH logistics has been invited by GIL to be the founding Chairman of the committee. THE 12th 5 YEAR PLANChina’s 12th Five Year Plan was ratified in early March and strategizes the Chinese government’s objective to double or indeed triple per capita income through a more balanced distribution of GDP among the government, corporate, household and financial sectors. The plan encapsulates the new policy direction for China of “inclusive growth", a term coined by President Hu Jintao in his speech at an APEC meeting on 16 Sept 2010, emphasising that making all the Chinese people benefit from economic growth is the ultimate goal of inclusive growth. The plan will have widespread implications for global trade and will herald a dramatic rise in Chinese domestic consumption. This shift in emphasis: the balancing of Import with Export will mean enormous implications for the global and local logistics industry.

Dr Fu Yuning Announced as Chair of China Chapter New York & Shanghai, March 17th 2008: The Global Institute of Logistics (GIL) has announced the appointment of Dr. FU Yuning as the Chairman of its China Chapter. The announcement was made in Shanghai on the eve of TOC Asia at the Institute's third annual China Chapter dinner. The China Chapter has been chaired since its inception in 2006 by Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Director Paul Goldsbrough. Speaking at Monday?s annual dinner in Shanghai, Mr. Goldsbrough reflected on his time in the chair before welcoming Dr. Fu as his successor. "I am honored to have served as the founding Chairman of the China Chapter and am particularly proud of our role in the development of the CTQI standard; its existence is testament to the power of cooperation amongst all stakeholders in global maritime logistics and proves what can be achieved when we as an industry simply talk. I would like to congratulate Dr. FU Yuning on his appointment to the chair. It gives me enormous satisfaction to see the role pass to Dr. Fu, his reputation and deep working knowledge of the Chinese maritime logistics sector will bring the work of the Global Institute of Logistics to a new and much larger audience. I am very encouraged by his vision for the China Chapter and am confident that under his direction, it will establish itself as one of the preeminent voices in Chinese maritime logistics." Dr. Fu, commenting on his appointment said: "I very much look forward to my time as Chairman of the China Chapter; the Global Institute of Logistics has done an excellent job in developing the Institute and has proved the case for its work in the development of CTQI. In the future development mandate of the China Chapter, I wish to bring attention to a number of items on the agenda. We plan to call upon the assembly of a multi-party task force made up of a cross-section of the industry, to investigate and identify key buildup areas of China?s maritime logistics chain?particularly the standing of China?s inland distribution network and the effects of logistics traffic on existing infrastructure. The taskforce will determine efficiency and productivity pitfalls and evaluate site connectivity for benchmarking. The best minds in the business will congregate through a series of workshops over the year, ultimately culminating in the production of a white paper to showcase the results and present deliverables."
