The new-look TOC Container Supply Chain: Asia retains all of the topical analysis and debate that delegates have come to expect on the evolution of container trade, shipping and ports across Asia Pacific, but with an added dimension for, and from, the producers and retailers whose cargo actually fills those boxes, ships, ports and terminals. At this time of deep volatility in the global economy, building robust relationships and a better understanding between all parties along the container supply chain has never been more important.TOC CSC Asia is the trusted forum for government, cargo owners, logistics providers, liner shipping, ports and terminals, inland transport, finance and other key stakeholder groups to meet, debate, and shape the future. With main conference sessions complemented by a series of practical seminars, workshops and interview-style forums on the exhibition floor, plus round-table debates on key operations and technology topics, a comprehensive programme will provide attendees with a wealth of fresh insight and valuable new business contacts.

XIAMEN KNOWLEDGE MISSION
The Institute’s ‘China week’ continued with a benchmarking visit to the Port of Xiamen.
Pictured: Representatives from the Institute and the Ports of Zeebrugge, Virginia and Xiamen enjoying dinner together.
After a warm welcome from the Port of Xiamen, the Institute accompanied by our European Chairman Mr. Joachim Coens of the Port of Zeebrugge and our North American Chairman Mr. Jerry Bridges of the Port of Virginia, participated in a boat tour of the Port.
After the tour the Institute and the Ports of Zeebrugge and Virginia were invited to the Port of Xiamen headquarters to view a presentation about the Port, and to learn about the Port of Xiamen’s experiences.

PORT OF XIAMEN BOAT TOUR
Pictured: During the benchmarking tour Mr. Coens noted that the MSC vessel was part of the recent MSC – CMA CGM alliance. An alliance between the second and third largest carriers certainly caused shockwaves. Mr. Coens also noted that this vessel may have been part of a service that calls to his Port of Zeebrugge.
Pictured: Mr. Joachim Coens (on left) plays a bit of table football (or ‘foosball’ as it sometimes referred) with Mr. Jerry Bridges. Apparently the match ended 1-0.

The Port of Xiamen is a deepwater port along the several-thousand-kilometre-long coastline between Guangzhou and Ningbo provinces. It is wide and deep, free of ice and the 64.5 km of natural coastline around the port area maintain a depth of at least 40 feet.
Ships of up to one hundred thousand tonnage can be anchored at the inner port, while fifty thousand tonnage ships can pull in for loading and unloading. Xiamen Port has 37 docks and wharves ranging from small to large sizes, of which 4 (including one container dock) are for 10,000 to 50,000 tonnage, and 8 for 1,000 to 5,000 tonnage vessels. A railway line for special use is available within the port area.
Trade links have been established by the port with more than 140 countries and regions, with passenger routes linking Xiamen with Hong Kong, Shanghai, Wenzhou and Guangzhou, etc. already in service.
Data released by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce in March 2012 showed that Xiamen Port has become the world’s largest stone trading centre. Its stone trade volume accounts for more than 60% of the business in China, and takes about 15% of the global trade.
The data showed that the total volume of stone imported and exported via Xiamen Port hit 13.54 million tons, around $ 4.07 billion in 2011, an increase of 13.7% from the previous year. The export volume reached 6.83 million tons, $ 2.94 billion, up 15% year on year; while the import volume reached 6.71 million tons, $ 1.13 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.9%.
According to the data there are now four large stone raw material distribution centres and sales markets in Xiamen, gathering more than 1000 kinds of fine stone material from all around the world.
Over 50% of Brazil granite, more than 60% of Indian granite blocks, more than 30% of Turkish marble blocks, as well as over 80% of Bianco Teseo and Cream Marfil are distributed, processed and re-exported via Xiamen Port.
There are now more than 1200 stone import and export enterprises in Xiamen, controlling the stone supply and sales for more than 6,000 stone processing plants in and near Xiamen. The ongoing 12th China Xiamen International Stone Fair has attracted over 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries and regions around the world to Xiamen.
